Fire & Tornado Coverage

The North Dakota State Fire and Tornado Fund (NDFT) provides building, personal, outdoor, and trailer property coverage for North Dakota political subdivisions. Since 2019, the NDIRF has managed the NDFT’s operations, including coverage forms, claims services, and risk management education and training.

Blanket Limit of Coverage

This endorsement is available for adequately valued buildings (BP) and personal property (PP) scheduled at replacement cost (RC). Adequately valued property has coverage limit amounts equivalent to its replacement cost value.

Adequately valued property may be moved to the Blanket Limit of Insurance form. The blanket limit incorporates CP 12 32 (06/07) and provides a 125% margin clause. Property items must be listed on the Blanket Limit of Insurance schedule.

Outdoor property (OP) and property scheduled at actual cash value (ACV) are excluded.

This coverage is offered at no additional cost.

Wind Hail Per Building Deductible

This endorsement (FT WH 07 01 21) amends the per building deductible for wind/hail losses to be applied on a per occurrence basis.

Increase Sewer Backup Limit to $25,000

This endorsement (FT SB 07 01 21) increases the coverage limit to $25,000 for damage from water that backs up or overflows from a sewer, drain, or sump. Standard coverage allows $10,000 toward damages caused by sewer backup.

Additional Per Building Debris Removal Limits

This endorsement (FT DR 07 01 21) allows you to purchase additional debris removal expense coverage in the amounts of $100,000, $250,000, and $500,000. Coverage limits can be selected for each property item. Standard coverage allows $10,000 toward debris removal expense.

Equipment Breakdown

This endorsement helps to cover repair or replacement costs if an unexpected mechanical, electrical, or pressure failure occurs.

Coverage Overview

Business Personal Property
  • Furniture and fixtures
  • Machinery and equipment, including lawn and ground care equipment
  • Stock
  • All other personal property owned by you and used in your business
  • Labor, materials or services furnished or arranged by you on personal property of others
  • Your use interest as tenant in improvements and betterments. Improvements and betterments are fixtures, alterations, installations or additions
    • Made a part of the building or structure you occupy but do not own; and
    • You acquired or made at your expense but cannot legally remove
  • Leased personal property for which you have a contractual responsibility to insure, unless otherwise provided for under Personal Property of Others
Covered Property does not include:
  • Works of art, antiques or rare articles, including etchings, pictures, statuary, marbles, bronzes, porcelains and bric-a-brac (except for such articles that are attached to or an integral component of a building);
  • Automobiles held for sale;
  • Bridges, roadways, walks, patios or other exteriors paved surfaces;
  • Contraband, or property in the course of illegal transportation or trade;
  • The cost of excavations, grading, backfilling or filling
  • Foundations of buildings, structures, machinery or boilers if their foundations are below:
    • The lowest basement floor; or
    • The surface of the ground if there is no basement
  • Land (including land on which the property is located), water, growing crops or lawns;
  • Underground pipes, tanks, flues or drains, wiring or cables
  • Additions under construction
