INSIDE CLAIMS ADJUSTER

The North Dakota Insurance Reserve Fund is seeking a detail-oriented Inside Claims Adjuster to investigate, evaluate, and resolve multi-line insurance claims—primarily from our Bismarck office—through phone, email, and written correspondence. This role involves determining liability, assessing damages, negotiating settlements, and working with attorneys, independent adjusters, and defense counsel. You’ll also handle property claims for the North Dakota Fire & Tornado Fund and assist with subrogation, reporting, and other claims support functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and process new claims; confirm coverage and determine appropriate handling strategy.
  • Investigate claims by gathering statements, reviewing evidence, and obtaining relevant reports.
  • Evaluate liability and damages, and negotiate settlements within assigned authority.
  • Monitor reserves and supervise independent adjusters and attorneys.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel on defense strategies and settlement opportunities.
  • Prepare loss reports, maintain communication with agents and members, and update claim files.
  • Assist with salvage, subrogation, and technical support for other NDIRF departments.

Qualifications

  • Two-year degree or equivalent, with 3–4 years of basic insurance claims experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of claims management practices, negotiation techniques, and insurance principles.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with modern office software and claims management systems.
  • AIC designation preferred; valid driver’s license required.
