This role involves determining liability, assessing damages, negotiating settlements, and working with attorneys, independent adjusters, and defense counsel. You’ll also handle property claims for the North Dakota Fire & Tornado Fund and assist with subrogation, reporting, and other claims support functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and process new claims; confirm coverage and determine appropriate handling strategy.
  • Investigate claims by gathering statements, reviewing evidence, and obtaining relevant reports.
  • Evaluate liability and damages, and negotiate settlements within assigned authority.
  • Monitor reserves and supervise independent adjusters and attorneys.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel on defense strategies and settlement opportunities.
  • Prepare loss reports, maintain communication with agents and members, and update claim files.
  • Assist with salvage, subrogation, and technical support for other NDIRF departments.

Qualifications

  • Two-year degree or equivalent, with 3–4 years of basic insurance claims experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of claims management practices, negotiation techniques, and insurance principles.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with modern office software and claims management systems.
